Our lighting technology works equally well with today’s state of the art LED lights. The EWM Smart Controls contain all of the functionality to leverage and maximize the efficiencies available in LEDs including color, quality and instant dimming. For example, complimenting LEDs ability to go from “0% to 100%” full range lighting instantly, our control systems contains multiple options including motion-based lighting, which turns lights ON only when motion is detected. Our Smart Controls ensure that the right amount of lighting is provided where and when needed, eliminating wasted energy, thereby reducing costs and improving Return on Investment.
Overview
As cities, towns and industrial facilities are faced with the increasingly difficult challenge of allocating fewer financial resources across an increasingly long list of needs, they are seeking innovative ways to reduce costs. Lighting constitutes a significant portion of their budgets; however, by using the latest advances in lighting technology they can significantly reduce these costs and eliminate the need to turn lights OFF.
Every Watt Matters is a leader in developing scalable, intelligent lighting management solutions that provide the lowest cost of ownership. EWM’s lighting management solutions ensure that the right amount of lighting is provided where needed, when needed, eliminating energy waste, thereby reducing costs.
Our lighting control system is an automated “plug and play” centralized Streetlight Management System that reduces energy costs up to 30% for traditional streetlights, and maintenance costs by at least 50% for traditional, LED lights. Energy costs are reduced through intelligent switching, while maintenance costs are reduced by automated fault detection which eliminates the need for late night patrols. Our Smart Control System uses the latest RF-Wireless and GPRS/GSM technology to help cities, towns, utilities, industrial and parking facilities manage and control anywhere from a few streetlights to entire systems. Solutions range from low cost controllers that can replace digital timers on individual poles to complete systems that can control power to a large group of streetlights.
How It Works

Our “Plug & Play” system can be easily retrofitted for traditional streetlights; be installed on new LEDs, or be transferred from traditional streetlights to LEDs in the future. Here’s how it works: Simply plug the Lighting controller into a streetlight where a photo cell exists. Once plugged in, the controller communicates with the Wireless Gateway via RF-Wireless and GPRS/GSM technology sending messages back to the Control Station. From the Control Station fault messages are sent via email or text messages directly to the field staff in the event of a problem or office staff can view activity and analyze the system from the convenience of their desktops.

Key Features of the Smart Control Solution include:
- Wireless Technology: RF-Wireless and GPRS/GSM technology enables programming, monitoring and control of streetlights distributed over both large and small regions.
- Uses Existing Photo Cell Socket: The EWM Lighting controller can be plugged into a pre-existing photo cell socket. If a photo cell is required to contribute to a lamp’s operational mode it can be plugged into the EWM Lighting controller.
- Monitoring: Communication and energy monitoring modules provide continuous updates per lamp to the EWM Control Station.
- Control: Remote control of streetlights enables selected individual or groups of light poles to be switched ON/OFF as needed from a web-based interface. Each streetlight can support up to ten schedules that can be configured by the user to control On, Off, and Dimming levels at specific times. The schedules can be programmed on a daily/monthly/yearly basis or can be controlled locally using a built-in astro-clock that calculates sunset and sunrise times using the lights’ GPS location and time zone data throughout the year.
- Fault Monitoring and Alarm Call Service: Extensive fault monitoring is provided based on intelligent correlation of data to report light burn outs, lamp cycling, ballast or driver failure, communication failure and more. All faults are sent to the MCS that may generate alarms for visualization and fault rectification of critical issues.
- Burn Hours: The controller can track lamp usage hours that can be used for predictive maintenance allowing lamp replacement planning in advance.
- Scalability: The system can be easily and quickly expanded to any new or remote areas.
- Installation: Several controller mounting options enable easy installation or retrofitting.
- Multiple Protocol Support: Support of multiple industry standard protocols enables easy integration with other systems and networks.
- Web-based Monitoring and Control: Enables comprehensive display of live and historical data and remote configuration.
- Integration with Google Maps and Google Earth: Provides an intuitive and familiar interface for users that require little training.
- Report Generation: Detailed real time reports of energy consumption by streetlight sent via email.
- Comprehensive Energy Dashboards: Display “energy usage” and “energy saved” per region or system-wide over user supplied time frames.
- Hosted or Onsite Monitoring Software Available: For communities that do not wish to invest in monitoring software and equipment, EWM can host and provide the monitoring for them.
Key Features of the Smart Control Solution include:
How It Works
- No Training Required – Simply “Plug and Play”: If you can install a photocell, then you can install EWM’s Controller.
- Power Savings: Reduces energy costs by as much as 30% through intelligent scheduling.
- Low Investment: Very low investment costs for traditional streetlights or LEDs.
- Easy Expansion: Scalable to new or remote areas quickly and easily since no cables are involved.
- Reduced Light Pollution: By reducing or turning off power to lights when and where they are not needed.
- Maintains Public Safety: Removes the need to arbitrarily turn off lights to save energy and in the end, money.
- Robust and Reliable: Operates over large distances with full reliability.
- Event-based Reporting: Notification provided automatically to the responsible individuals as soon as faults occur.
- Mobile Workforce Management: Workforce can directly interact with the system while in the field.
- No Photo Cell Required: The controller has a built in Astro-clock that offers several advantages over fault prone Photo Cells.
EWM’s Smart Control System Drastically Lowers Maintenance Costs Smart Controls reduces maintenance costs for traditional, LED based lights by at least 50% by automating the entire fault management process. The system software begins by automatically identifying the occurrence of a fault and generating a maintenance work order. The maintenance work order is assigned systematically for repair. Once the repair is completed the system can be updated to reflect the repair that has been made, providing a historical view for future repairs that may be necessary. Automating the fault management process via a web-based interface eliminates the need for late night patrols to monitor the functioning of lights. In addition, the software’s ability to track component use times and electrical usage allows lights to be changed prior to failure, thus reducing maintenance costs.
